-World Health Organization.

I’m Marisela and I’ve embarked on a quest to a healthier lifestyle.
Physical appearance was obviously a great contributor to my lifestyle change, but it never surpassed my need for good health and well-being; so I’ve lumped up all my knowledge of nutrition and fitness, applied it to my life, and have not looked back for a single moment. I now feel lighter and fitter than ever before, my complexion is clearer, my metabolism is faster, I have more energy, strength and flexibility, and my digestive tract works flawlessly (I cannot remember the last time I had a stomach ache)! So while seeing results on the outside serves as great motivation, the knowledge that you’ve accomplished this feat by doing something so good for your body that it could potentially extend your life, is more rewarding than fitting into your favourite jeans at the cost of your health.
This life is ephemeral, so love it and live it well.

Qu'ils ne mangent plus du gâteau!

garden-of-vegan:

Flavour doesn’t divert people from leading an omnivorous lifestyle, if there are two things that ultimately do, they are health and ethics. I have battled in the past with what the correct lifestyle is for me, but I’ve found flaws in both arguments and ultimate inevitabilities that have led me to…

It’s been a hell of a year, guys. I apologize to my faithful followers for my extended absence, but I’ve been prioritizing a multitude of things over this blog and I’ve still got an incredibly busy rest of the year ahead of me. I don’t plan on deactivating this because I wish for everyone to enjoy having full access to anything provided here (that they may find useful, enlightening, or just amusing). I’ve been in an oddly analytical mood today and I wrote this once-in-a-blue-moon post on my personal tumblr that I found relevant for this community. Enjoy, and take care, all you lovely people!

So the holidays are coming,

and I’ll finally have some free time. That whole no-sleep-living-off-coffee-and-cigarettes stereotype given to architecture students really isn’t a stereotype, well, for me, maybe the cigarette part is, but I have been living off pumpkin pie and black coffee as of late, and getting as many as 3-5 hours of sleep every other day. And as you can guess, having barely any time to sleep equates to barely any time for exercise either, or a social life, or even Tumblr for that matter, haha. But that’s changing again soon. I will admit, there have been times throughout the semester where I could’ve dedicated a part of my day to minding my diet and moving some more, but I’m not sweating it; it’s definitely something that I’ll always go back to throughout my life, even if it comes to a sudden halt sometimes. I’d like to welcome all my new followers and send a big hello to the oldies. I apologize if I don’t update this very frequently anymore, but I hope whatever is, and will be here, will get you by. C: I hope you’re all doing wonderfully.

Photo

Photo

Hi, followers!

I know I haven’t been actively posting, but lately my priorities have taken a slight turn. While I have always been focused on making the best of the present while planning for the future, lately something has come over me to make the best of every single, little passing moment in my life—from watching the city skyline on every train ride and appreciating it in every light, to making shorter term plans for the future. You might be wondering how any of this interferes with leading a healthy lifestyle, but as I’ve always believed, health is more than just a physical state, it’s also a mental state, and one which I am personally attempting improve, even as I end a progressively more incredible year.

I will admit that ever since the fall semester of school began I have engaged in minimal physical activity, and struggled with eating sensibly, but this isn’t something that consumes my every thought, as many people would assume. It certainly is something I’d like to get back into with equal intensity, but I’m simply not as willing when I have so much less free time than I do during my summer vacation. With that being said, I still resort to the knowledge of nutrition and fitness I have gained overtime when I feel like my healthy lifestyle is becoming extremely derailed, and with that, and a general will to make some improvements, I can manage to get even my slowly-metabolizing body to maintain itself in a general weight range.

I hope you can all remember that while staying active and eating sensibly is, in my opinion, a very important lifestyle aspect, it should not be all-consuming, or hinder any other positive aspect of your lives. Hope you’re all doing well!

Feeling better C:

Tried to go cold turkey one night and beat my fever by the morning. Every night, right around bed time I’ll develop this very mild fever that I lay to rest with an aspirin. I’ll also get acute pressure headaches and just feel overall very lethargic. It’s the strangest thing, because I haven’t been sick in…well…I don’t even know. Long enough! Can the change of weather finally be catching up to me? Or all those germs from commuting 10+ hours a week? I hope it subsides soon, because I want to go back to feeling 100%. Lots of water and whole foods in the meantime. Hope you’re all doing alright, yourselves.

Bah dum tsss

Boyfriend: So how is Almond milk made?
They took me with them to Howe Caverns in upstate NY, where we got a tour of the caves, streams and the rock formations some 200ft underground. It was pretty neat. After, we went apple picking at a local orchard.

You’re required to buy a $15 bag to fill to your desire. I’m pretty sure we got our money’s worth because there’re approximately 30lbs of apples sitting in our kitchen right now. I decided to put them to good use and make apple oatmeal this morning. I was initially going to just put warm apple slices and peanut butter in a flaxseed/oats combo, but I ended up forgetting the peanut butter, and after I tried a mouthful, I figured it tasted a bit like a dry apple pie. I knew it needed something creamy, cold and sweet (namely, ice cream so as to have apple pie à la mode), but I knew that would ruin a perfectly healthy breakfast. Besides, we don’t buy ice cream, so I knew there wasn’t any. There were, however, mini serving-size all-natural caramel greek yogurt cups. Need I say more? It was the perfect finishing touch. I couldn’t believe something so healthy could taste so sinfully delicious. And even at less than 300 calories I couldn’t possibly go for another serving. Did I mention almost 20 grams of protein? My tummy’s happy.

Later today I’ll be going out for Japanese with the beau, because today’s a holiday and tomorrow we’ll be celebrating 3 and a half years together. C: I’ll be sure to make wise choices, regardless. I don’t feel that I need a break to indulge, atm. I think I’ll have some steamed edamame as an appetizer, and a sashimi entrée. I will, however, make room for a glass of sake.

Time to fix up around here for a bit! Catch up with you lovelies, soon!

After a good hour of stalking your blog, I felt I owed you a quick note to say exactly how awesome your blog is (and you too for that matter!). I just had a mushroom and spinach omelet with salsa for dinner. It was unexpectedly delicious, though. On a more, irrelevant note? Allow the screenshot to speak for itself:
